I did not go to film school. I learnt how to make films from self-study and late night hours building my skills. In the dark days before the internet, where you bought manuals and tips books for software.
On a whim some friends and I wrote and shot my first film, an 80 minute feature, shot for fun, which remarkably received a broadcast option from a foreign outlet.
On the back of this falling-into-filmmaking “accident” I co-founded a production company called Troika+Ltd, and with my colleagues we purchased equipment, made the move to HD, and sought an official commission.
We got our first commission within 12 months of establishment through sheer determination and passion for film-making. This resulted in building a body of work and we learnt as we went along. It was a time of pure creativity.
This led to work in the corporate sector (where the money was certainly better!). I have worked on commissions for large scale corporations including Apple, British Airways, as well as local businesses, international IT solutions companies and Eco Tourism charter operators.
I produce. I direct. I write. I edit. I score. I create digital FX. I operate the camera. I make the tea and I sweep the floor.
I have lectured at universities on film-making and digital FX and also worked to develop film-school graduates in obtaining real paid work to build their skills and contribute to the independent scene.
I am based in Sheffield, UK where I continue to balance paid commissions with self-funded projects and charitable work, utilizing a network of freelance artists through my company, and I entertain projects large and small if they present opportunities to learn and develop and have some fun!
I always bring a project in on time, under budget, and with a quality beyond the resources available.
(The work displayed on my website is largely personal work and not my many corporate commissions)
