During 2011 I took a vacation to Simonstown, South Africa for the purpose of fulfilling a long delayed dream of cage diving with Great White Sharks – which have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I was honoured to be able to use the services of African Shark Eco-Charters, under the captaincy of shark legend Rob Lawrence. Rob is well known for his involvement with BBC, National Geographic, and of course for the ground breaking Discovery Channel “Airjaws” productions.

During that vacation I shot footage for personal use, but was privelaged enough to have continued the shark love affair and produce and edit the following promotional piece for ASEC’s “Airjaws” tour. African Shark Eco-Charters are the most socially and ethically responsible tour operator in the Cape Town area, and have one of few exclusive permits to be able to observe Great White Shark’s in their natural predation environment around the world famous shark hot-spot of Seal Island.
Although aimed for promotional use, this piece features some stunning footage from Rob Lawrence himself, combined with my own, to capture the magic and power of the Airjaws experience. Will you believe a shark can fly?
You can also view the video on YouTube at the African Shark Eco-Charters channel if you wish and of course you should pop over to www.ultimate-animals.com and check out the amazing work that Rob and the ASEC team deliver for all you shark fanatics out there – truly changing the perceptions and education of the oceans apex predator, the Great White Shark.
